Damacio was born and raised in Santa Rosa, Texas, by his parents and his grandmother. As in most large families,Damacio left school at an early age to work to be able to help the family where he could. This, at times, included traveling up North with the family to work the fields, and even as a married man, he took his family to Arkansas a couple of times. After he married, Damacio worked in a warehouse and later became a Welder and worked in this field for twenty-plus years. He will always be remembered as an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching a game surrounded by family and friends.
He especially loved his Texas teams-the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, San Antonio Spurs, and his all-time favorite, the Dallas Cowboys. By far, his favorite sport was Baseball. As a young adult, Damacio played baseball in a Mexican league, which brought great joy to his life, as he often talked about it. In recent years, during baseball season, you could always find Damacio in his backyard, under his techito, watching whichever game was on at the time. Of course, one cannot forget that he was a proud Santa Rosa Warrior, who often went to games to show his support.
Family and Friends were very important to him. He was often seen cruising around Santa Rosa, as he ventured off to look for them to visit and hang out. He enjoyed a good back-yard barbecue with lots of laughs, tears, and beers. He was usually a very quiet and reserved man, but when people gathered around him, he came to life. We will always remember his love for music and dance. From the cumbia to the twist, Macio’s dancing shoes never skipped a beat. “Papi” or “Popo,” as he was so lovingly called by his kids and grandkids will dearly be missed, but we know he is now resting in a better place, and we thank God Almighty for giving us a father/grandfather like him. He will live on forever in our hearts and in our memories.
