Dale was born December 17, 1931, the son of Howard and Mildred (Papstein) Mather in Norfolk. He attended Norfolk Public Schools and then served in the U.S. Army September 1952 until September 1954. He returned to Norfolk and married Barbara J. Harrison on September 23, 1956. He was employed at Norco Feed Mills, and then worked at Harrison Phillip 66 Station at First and Norfolk Avenue. After the closing of the station he was employed by the City of Norfolk until his retirement.

During Dale’s retirement he worked part-time for the Parks Division during the summer and traveled with his wife Barbara to spend the winter months in Texas where he learned to love the game of golf. He was a huge Husker fan and enjoyed watching his grandkid’s sporting events.

Dale’s life and memory are forever cherished by his wife Barbara and their children; Steve (Jeri) Volk and their children Zack Volk and Andrea Chapinduka; Sherri (Don) Morrow and their children Andy, Lance and Brett; Jean (Stan) Essley and their children Luke, Morgan, and McKenzie all of Norfolk; Patty (Tom) Miller and their children Jared and Wade; Doug Mather and his daughter Shelby all of Crawfordsville, IN; six great grandchildren; one brother Don Mather of Monahans, TX; and his sister Bev Dillon of Cary, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Howard Mather and Harold Mather; and a sister Barb Suehl.
