Dale Kirby Schroeder passed Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born May 6, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois to parents George Frederick and Joyce Vivian (Fitch) Schroeder. The family moved to Wausau, WI in 1954.

Dale graduated magna cum laude from Luther College in 1978 with degrees in History and Political Science. He married Linda Kay Gesing on April 2, 1977, in Decorah, Iowa. In October 1979 they moved to Des Moines. Dale began his employment at that time with the Iowa Department of General Services as a purchasing agent. He was the President of the State Professional Fiscal Employees Union, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 363 from 1981-1988. In April 1988 he was appointed State Fleet Manager and in 1994 responsibility for the State of Iowa’s mail operations were assigned to him. He retired after 30 years of working for the State of Iowa. He worked as a Door Keeper in the Senate Chambers while the Iowa Congress was in session for several years after retirement.

Dale held adult leadership positions in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts taught confirmation classes at church and was an active participant with Home Lodge #2752, A.F. & A.M, Des Moines Scottish Rite, Des Moines York Rite, West Des Moines Elks Lodge #2752, the Iowa Democratic Party, and the Des Moines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League.

Dale enjoyed going up to northern Minnesota fishing and camping with friends and family. He especially loved going ice fishing at Lake of the Woods where he caught walleyes and slept out on the ice. Dale’s favorite sports teams were the Chicago White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother George Herbert Schroeder and half-sister Eleanor Oldham. He is survived by his wife Linda, sons Karl and Georg.
