Dale E. Hemingson, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 14, 2021.
Dale was born in San Jose, California during World War II. Upon the war’s end, his family moved to Osage, IA where he would spend his formative years on the family farm. His brothers, his friends, his classmates, his time with cousins and family created memories and friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. He was an accomplished student and athlete in school, even setting football records at his beloved Osage High School, which remain today (go Green Devils, Class of ‘61). He went onto college and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Chemistry degree and took a job at Iowa Power in Des Moines, IA.
In 1968, he met a nursing student named Judy Hensley. They married in 1969 and started their family. Two daughters, one house and countless vacations later, they saw almost the entire country together (46 states and 2 countries, all road trips).
Season tickets at Kinnick Stadium and following the Iowa Hawkeyes to bowl games were times he enjoyed tremendously.
His career included Iowa Power, ENEREX, and (his favorite) owning his own business, Unique Signs of America. Golfing, sports and playing the card game ROOK where amongst his favorite hobbies.
He loved “The Cabin” in Osage where he and Judy would spend their weekends. Golfing with friends and family were times he looked forward to.
He loved and was beloved by his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a constant source of love, strength, laughter, and generosity.
If you knew Dale Hemingson, you knew he was quick with a smile and a laugh. His sense of humor and kindness is what he will be remembered for.
Dale is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Crystal (Bryan) Farlow and Carrie (Tim) McCollum; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers; as well as nieces, nephews and their families.
