Troy – Cyrilla Suzanne (Garvey) Ashley, 82, peacefully entered eternal life at her home, surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 28th. She is reunited with her beloved husband, the late Bert T. Ashley Jr., whom she married on October 14, 1967. Cyrilla and Bert were married for over 45 years and had five children.
She is the daughter of the late Maurice C. and Suzanne Garvey. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, she was educated in Amherst, Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania State University where she received her master’s degree in Public Health.
Survivors include 6 sisters: Margaret Gralenski (late Nicholas) of Aptos, California, Mary Mazzei (late Francis) of Amherst, Massachusetts, Judith Garvey of South Hadley, Massachusetts, Angela D’Angelo (Joseph) of Beaver Creek, Ohio and Honora Thebodo (Robert) of Lyme, New Hampshire, brother-in- law George Como of Amherst, Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her sisters Katharine Fusini (late Carlo) of Windsor, Massachusetts and Cornelia Como of Amherst, Massachusetts, and her brother Maurice Garvey of Slingerlands, New York.
She was the devoted mother of Bert T. Ashley III of Troy; Robert M. (Darlene) Ashley of Troy; Ann Margaret M. Ashley of Schenectady; Eugene P. (Jacquelyn) Ashley of Troy; and Cyrilla S. Ashley of Troy.
Cherished grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of 11. Being a mother and grandmother brought great joy to her life.
Cyrilla was a loving, thoughtful, and dedicated mother, who in addition to raising five children, found the time to work as a Registered Dietitian for over 30 years before retiring in 2008. She was employed by the Troy Visiting Nurses Association and St. Peter’s Home Care.
