Cynthia Alkire, of Rockville, Maryland on Sunday, October 11, 2015.

Beloved mother of Daniel Beigel, Carolyn Nguyen (John), Kenneth Kemper (Cienwen) and John Kemper (Sherry); Grandmother of Benjamin, Natalie and Christopher Nguyen, Jackson, Vanessa and Sam Kemper; Sister of Susan Hill (Les); Aunt of Cathy Wade, Beth Krolak (Dave), Laura Oanes (Mike), Karen Siewert (Jeff), Jen Sorenson (Jeff) and Jim Hill. Also survived by her former husband, Frederick Kemper.

Cindy was a loving mother of 4, grandmother of 6, and daycare mother to generations of children.  Originally from Minneapolis, she enjoyed swimming in the many lakes and vacationing with her family in northern Minnesota, where they would go canoeing.   She was fun-loving and enjoyed Yo-Yos, and won a neighborhood competition.   She graduated from St. Louis Park High School and briefly worked as a dental hygienist.   After moving to Maryland, she attended University of Maryland at College Park with an emphasis on childhood development.   She started Happy Faces Family daycare business, which she maintained for 46 years.  She taught the children kindness and respect for others, and maintained a preschool environment.  Her favorite quote, which she had hanging on her wall, was;

“One hundred years from now,

It won’t matter what car I drove,

What kind of house I lived in,

How much money I had in my bank account,

Nor what my clothes looked like,

But the world may be a little better

Because I was important in the life of a child.”

Cindy always had a positive outlook and attitude. No matter the circumstances, she remained positive and took the high road. When dealing with challenges and adversity, she showed that you can get through it by not giving up and continuing to push forward. She was also generous and willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
