Curtis Vollman, 89, of Three Oaks, Michigan, died Tuesday morning, February 21, 2006, at Miller’s Merry Manor in New Carlisle, Indiana.
Curtis was born July 26, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois to John and Mabel (Wallace) Vollman. He lived in Three Oaks most of his life and graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1934. He served his country in the US Army’s 179th Engineering Battalion in Europe and wrote a book about his experience during the war later in his life. Curtis married Lucille “Fern” Shermak on September 14, 1940, in Harbert, Michigan. He was employed as the manager for Big C Lumber Company, formerly the Three Oaks Lumber Company, retiring after 38 years.
Curtis was a member of the Three Oaks Lions Club, the Randall Couchman Post 204 American Legion, Three Oaks, Three Oaks F. and A.M. # 239, and the Chikaming Country Club. He enjoyed bowling, and woodworking and loved Radio Controlled Airplanes. He also enjoyed watching sports and was a Chicago sports fan. Curtis was an avid golfer and worked at Pebblewood Country Club in Bridgman after his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Vollman; children: Linda (Butch) Koth; Jon (Penny) Vollman; Terry (Connie) Vollman and Dianne (Bill) Kirk all of Three Oaks; grandchildren: Kari, Vickie, Lisa, Amy Jo, Amy Lynne, Annette, David, Angie, Michelle, Scott, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren: Meredith, Claire, Samantha, Grace, Madison, Daniel, Jake, Ethan, Garrett, Emily, Jerry III, Matthew, Hailey, and Rylie.
