Curtis Gene Gladish
August 6, 1934 – September 3, 2020
Curtis Gene Gladish, 86, of Sheridan, Ark., passed away peacefully on September 3, 2020, at home surrounded by the love of his family. Curtis was born in New Madrid, Missouri on August 6, 1934 to parents Virgil W. Gladish and Thelma L. (Jones) Gladish.
Curtis graduated from Scott High School in 1953 and went to work at Crow Burlingame in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was there that he met the love of his life, Bobbie Lafern Colvert Gladish. They married on March 11, 1955 and had two daughters, Toni Gladish Walters and Donna Gladish DuMond, his “precious jewels.”
He proudly served four years in the United States Navy as Storekeeper 2nd Class on the USS Catamount.
Curtis was ingrained with a strong work ethic that served him well in his twenty years as owner of Motor Supply of Sheridan. After retirement, Curtis found his second calling as a substitute teacher for Sheridan Schools, where for thirteen years he was fondly known as “Mr. G.”
Curtis was a man of deep faith and integrity. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, and served in many capacities throughout the years, among them deacon, treasurer, superintendent, and Sunday School teacher. He was a lifelong student of the Bible and was passionate about discussing and teaching the Word of God.
In his spare time, “Curt” often kicked back in his favorite recliner, watching most anything with cowboys and horses. His hobbies included wood carving, gun collecting, and maintaining his meticulously mown lawn. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling and he and Bobbie were able to take many special trips with friends. Curtis was dedicated to his family and he loved them well. He was a devoted husband to Bobbie, and a loving Daddy to his daughters and Papa to his grands. He was “Uncle Grunt” to many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Gladish.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bobbie Colvert Gladish of Sheridan; two daughters: Toni (Dwayne) Walters and Donna (Sid) DuMond of Sheridan; three grandchildren: Randi (Greg) Webb, Cole (Laura) Walters, and Nathan Walters; and four great grandchildren: Ava Walters and Rylie, Sophie and Sawyer Webb. He is also survived by his siblings: Jerry (Cindy) Gladish of Carlisle, Phyllis (Charles) Summers of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Peggye (Kit) Todd of DeValls Bluff, Keith (Judy) Gladish of DeValls Bluff; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Evelyn and Barbara from Baptist Hospice for the love and care they gave to Curtis and his family these past few months.
