Curtis “Curt” Joel Bellanger, Sr., age 41, “Ozhaawashko giizhig” which means “Blue Sky” of Deer River, Minnesota journeyed to the spirit world on Monday, June 8th, 2020 from the Essentia Hospital in Deer River, MN.
He was born on August 15th, 1978 in Cass Lake, MN, the son of Brenda Bellanger and Hubert Wakanabo, Jr. He worked as a chef at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker for years before transferring to the White Oak Casino in Deer River. In his free time, Curtis enjoyed playing Bedrock Bowling and horseshoes, where he placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in their annual tournaments. He liked listening to music, especially The Doors and on Sundays you could find him watching his Minnesota Vikings. Curtis used to sit with Porker and tell jokes secretly and giggle, which then turned into a hearty laugh. He loved being around and spending time with his family and friends as often as he could.
Family that Curtis is reunited with are his father, Hubert Wakanabo, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Ruby and Samuel Bellanger, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Josie and Hubert Wakanabo, Sr. and several other relatives.
He leaves behind his sons, Curtis Jr. and Miles; mother, Brenda Bellanger; sisters, Naomi and Alicia Bellanger and Michelle Urrutia; brothers, Clayton Bellanger, Brody Hawk, Vernon Kingbird, Jr. and Hubert “Big Boy” Urrutia, numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
