Craig was born on March 23, 1958 in Harlingen, Texas to Forrest Newell and Delores Jean (Bristley) Cobb. Craig was the middle of five children. His early years were spent as an Air Force “Brat” wherever his father was stationed. The family then moved to Cedar Rapids and ultimately settled in LeMars, Iowa where he graduated from LeMars High School in 1976. He attended Spencer School of Business and earned an Associate Degree in Accounting and Business. Craig later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Almeda University. It was during this time at Spencer School of Business he met the love of his life, Rebecca Ann Reinig. They met on October 12, 1978, and were united in marriage on April 12, 1980, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Christopher Kyle, Catherine Ann and Kimberly Jean. Craig and Becky lived in St. Michael, MN for 18 years and then moved to Spirit Lake, IA to be closer to family. In 2007, they moved to Pella, IA. It was in July, 2020 they moved into their dream home “The Brown Bear Lodge” near Lake Red Rock. Craig’s lifelong passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors brought him great joy. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially at the family cabin in Spirit Lake. Craig loved hunting in the north woods with his loyal dogs; Maxi, Millie and Izzie. He loved coaching kids and sharing his knowledge of sports, especially basketball. Craig volunteered many hours to the St. Michael Lions Club, youth sports, volunteering at church as a lector, retreat leader, and confirmation sponsor. Craig was most recently employed by Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella, Iowa, where he served as the Corporate Tax Director. He was immensely proud to be part of this organization. It brought him great joy to go to work every day. Craig was previously employed by Pella Corporation, Spirit Lake School District, MVP Pics, Craig Cobb Consulting and Cargill, Manufacturing. Craig and Becky spent hours traveling to and from treatments and appointments. They sang gospel music, shared memories and their hopes and dreams for their children and grandchildren. Following his father’s footsteps, Craig enjoyed sharing little ditties, telling old stories, and singing songs. On April 1, 2021, Craig Carson Cobb, loving husband, father and papa, passed away peacefully at home at age of 63 after a fearless and relentless fight against cancer. Craig is survived by his wife of 40 years Becky, three children and their spouses. They Are: Christopher and Jennifer (Wolf) Cobb of Davenport, Iowa Kaleb, Cayleigh, Killian, Camille & Calvin Cobb Catherine Cobb and Jeff Kampa of South St. Paul, MN Kimberly and Brett Nielsen of Davenport, Iowa Sebastian, Aurora and Giselle Nielsen Of his original family Craig leaves his father, Forrest Cobb and Patsy Standerfer, his three sisters and their spouses: Cindy and Mark Mammen, Cay and DeeJay Donlin and Carla and Brent Dyhrkopp. Of Becky’s family he leaves; his mother-in-law, Darlene Reinig; and Becky’s siblings; Jay Reinig, Luann and Dan Lauters, JoAnn VonAhn, Chuck Reinig and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Craig is preceded in death by his mother, Delores (Bristley), his brother Kyle, father-in-law, James Reinig and his grandparents, Carson & Marjorie (Newell) Cobb and Harold & Nina (Marshall) Bristley.
