NEWHOUSE, Cornelius W. of Kalamazoo. Cornelius William “Neal” Newhouse was born August 5, 1920, in Kalamazoo, the son of William and Cornelia Plantefaber Newhouse and went home to be with his Lord September 19, 2011, in Kalamazoo.

He was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident who had served as a combat veteran in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division during World War II. Neal was founder, owner and operator of Newhouse Equipment Company from 1958 until his retirement in 1985. He was a longtime member of Trinity Reformed Church where he had served as Deacon and was a member and past-president of the Downtown Kalamazoo Optimist Club. On August 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Mary E. Bouwman Newhouse, who preceded him in death on June 1, 1991. Neal was also preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Mein and a brother, Gordon Newhouse.

Surviving are three children, Paul Susan Newhouse of Baltimore, MD, Mary Paul van Son of Alexandria, VA and Randal Newhouse of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Megan, Ian and Gwyneth van Son, Mark Shoni Newhouse and Eric Newhouse; a sister-in-law, Virginia Newhouse; nieces and nephews.
