Cora Virginia Hill Grubbs (known affectionately to her family as “Sister”), 92, of Newnan passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016. She was born February 19, 1923 in Montezuma, GA to the late Arthur Chapel Hill & Corene Tucker Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clifford Grubbs, Jr.; sister, Helen Philpott; brothers, Howard Shreno Hill, and Sgt. Major (Ret.) James Durrell Hill. The majority of her young life was spent in Thomaston, Georgia, where she met and married her husband Clifford Grubbs, Jr. in 1940. During WWII, she lived in Warner Robins, GA and then Thomaston, GA when her husband served in the Army Air Corps. During WWII she worked in a munition factory in Warner Robins, GA. She moved to Newnan in 1946 after the end of WWII and the return of her husband from service in England (8th Air Force) where her husband was employed by R.D. Cole Manufacturing. Most of her adult life was spent as a wife, mother, and homemaker. Her employment included Coweta General Hospital (food service) where she was one of the originally hired employees. She was a Charter member of Unity Baptist Church and her last church home was East Newnan Baptist Church. Survivors include children, Jimmy (Annemarie) Grubbs, Frankie (Barbara) Grubbs, Philip (Olivia) Grubbs, Ben (Pat) Grubbs, Jo Anne Grubbs (Ronnie) Bryant; grandchildren, Mary Ann Grubbs Neal, Michael Grubbs, Lisa Grubbs McWilliams, Melissa Grubbs Marshall, Jennifer Grubbs Garner, Frank Grubbs, Jr., Jenny Grubbs Monk, Jason Farnell, Julie Stevenson Hoffman; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Glenda Baggett, Jackie Bell, Annette Erenheim; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
