  • Date Of Death: September 3, 2016
  • State: New Mexico

Mickie Griggs was born in Lansing, MI on August 20, 1936, to Alice Mentzer Herbert and Russell E. Herbert. She died on September 3, 2016, in Albuquerque, NM. Mickie and her family moved to Albuquerque when she was nine years old. She graduated from Highland High School in 1954 and subsequently attended Browning Commercial School. Mickie enjoyed several interesting jobs throughout her career as an administrative assistant, including a year in Washington DC working as an aide for Senator Dennis Chavez and positions at the Albuquerque Police Department, Navajo Freight, and Albuquerque BioPark.

Mickie married Edward Allen Griggs in 1967. Together they enjoyed horseback riding, country music, dancing, travel and especially their dogs. Mickie had several long-time friends; among the most treasured were Joan Garrity, Priscilla Martinez, Ida Grant, Lou Ann Garner and the late Brother Thomas Reis. Since Allen’s death five years ago, Mickie’s life has been enriched by the presence and devotion of her companion, Donna Kie-Carney and her family.

Mickie was preceded in death by her husband and by her sister, Shirley Herbert. She is survived by Allen’s daughters, Eleanor Griggs-Anaya, Nina Bolton and their families; and by her beloved dog, Wyatt.

We cannot close without thanking Mickie’s extraordinary healthcare team. Their expertise enabled her to enjoy shopping, lunch dates, and cowboy shows for several extra years.

We love and miss you Mickie.
