Constance Lang Farmer passed away April 7, 2016, at the age of 87.
Connie was born on July 1, 1928, to Frank and Gertrude Lang, in San Francisco. At the age of thirteen, Connie moved to Wisconsin, where she graduated from Shorewood High School. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.A. in Speech and Drama, and a minor in Botany. She was a stewardess for Northwest Orient Airlines, and she did this because she refused to learn to type. One of the benefits of a pill-box hat and a uniform was that she got to travel to Hawaii, a remarkable luxury in the 1950’s. A fortunate blind date led to a long and happy marriage of 58 years to her beloved Lee. Married on September 18, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Connie’s marriage to Lee was the pride and delight of her life. Lee and Connie moved to Chicago where she was active in her Alpha Phi Sorority, the Chicago Lyric Opera, and kept herself fit through synchronized swimming.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Frank, and her husband Lee. She is survived by her brother, Donald Lang and his wife Cherylle of Williamsburg, Virginia, Connie’s children, Dr. Diana Farmer and husband Dr. Charles Cauldwell of Sacramento, California, Lee Farmer and partner Christine Bauman of Juneau, Alaska, Stuart Farmer and partner Michelle Giguere of Portland, Oregon, and grandchildren Patrick Cauldwell and his wife Victoria, Erica Cauldwell Mullen and husband Josh Mullen, great-grandchildren Ivan and Gwyn Cauldwell, and Connor Mullen. She is also survived by nephews Stephen and Beverly Lang, and Brian and Kelly Lang, and her travel buddy “sis” Sheila Cauldwell.
Connie will always be remembered by her enthusiasm for everything and everyone she ever met, her gracious spirit and heart, and her tremendous generosity.
