  • Date Of Birth: June 26, 1951
  • Date Of Death: January 26, 2021

Mrs. Connie Lea Schneider, 69, of Elkhart, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 12:30 pm at Elkhart General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Canton, IL on June 26, 1951 to the late Everett and Charlotte (Martin) Tompkins. On Christmas Eve 1977 she became the beautiful bride of David J. Schneider, who survives at home after 43 loving years together.

Along with David, Connie is survived by her siblings Eldon Tompkins, who is currently travelling the country in an RV, Theresa Tompkins (Chuck) Nees of Kokomo, IN and Gary (Michelle) Tompkins of South Bend, IN. She is also survived by a host of extended family and good friends, including her brother-in-law John (April) Schneider (and their children Sarah and Jacob) of Vandalia, MI who assisted David with Connie’s care and well-being, and her beloved kitty Cassie. Connie’s brother, Vernon Tompkins, precedes her in death.

Connie worked many years for the Elkhart Community School System as a “lunch lady” at Elkhart Central High School; however, she always jokingly considered herself a Concord Minuteman. She enjoyed entertaining with her husband and having friends over where they would watch rock and roll concerts on Pay-Per-View television. She was a huge football fan, and enjoyed watching her Bills, Chiefs and Packers make mincemeat out of their opponents on fall Sunday afternoons. She was also a devout Christian lady and happily shared her faith with her husband.

As her health declined, Connie began to enjoy doing crossword puzzles, coloring in adult coloring books and remaining close to her loving David and faithful Cassie.

All things considered, Connie was humble, loving and proud; enjoying the simpler things in life. She treated each day as a gift as she went about her friendly, easy-going way. She had a huge spirit and celebrated her relationships with others.
