Conchita Judy Jarmon, known to many as “Judy”, was born April 23, 1931 in Maui, Hawaii to Franco and Teofila Manuel. At the age of ten, Judy and her parents moved to Oahu, Hawaii. In 1941, she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor, a day in history she would always remember.

Judy’s favorite Hawaiian dish was lau lau, pork roasted in green tea leaves served with poi and Peking Duck as well. One of her cherished childhood memories was of the Christmas parties where her entire family gathered together. Her mother gave $20 to each of the grandchildren, a tradition Judy continued with her grandchildren throughout her life.

At the age of eighteen, Judy’s parents accompanied her to San Francisco, CA where she stayed with family. She chose this city to begin her adult life. Judy began her first job at a local bank, within walking distance from her residence in the heart of the Japanese District. For the rest of her life Japanese food remained her very favorite ethnic food.

After moving to San Diego, CA in 1964, Judy met the love of her life, Larry Jarmon, after walking into his restaurant, “Larry’s Cuban CafAC.”. She ended up working there with him and Larry and Judy were married that same year. They later worked together for nineteen years at Lion’s Department Store, downtown San Diego. The most cherished vacation of their marriage was a ten day trip that Larry won, to Tahiti and Moreau Islands, the trip of a lifetime.

Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her warm and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Conchita Judy Jarmon peacefully passed away on April 15, 2013 after a long illness. She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence Jarmon; son, Moses Manuel; sister, Claudette DeGracia and a host of other relatives.
