Thomas J. “Jim” Moseley, Jr. passed away on July 12, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosalie, and their children, Thomas J. Moseley, III and his wife Judi; Kathryn and her husband, Keith Maurer; and Patricia and her husband, Paul Kapp. His 8 grandchildren, Michael Robinson (Jess Robinson), Shannon Robinson Whitsett (Ryan Whitsett), Thomas J. Moseley, IV (Tess Moseley), Molly Robinson, Jamie Kapp, Lindsay Kapp, John Robinson, and Rachel Kapp; and 1 great-granddaughter, Arya Rose Whitsett. He is also survived by his sisters, Dr. Sylvia Moseley, Marla Moseley-Loftin and her husband, Guy Loftin, and Rebecca Moseley Scheimann and her husband Richard Scheimann, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Immediately after high school, he joined the Air Force, during which time he met Rosalie Timberman in Casablanca, Morocco, where her mother was a civil servant with the U.S. Air Force. After his time in the Air Force, Rosalie and Jim were married on December 12, 1959. He earned his B.A. in International Studies from the University of South Carolina and they had their first two children before they moved to New Haven, Connecticut, and Jim earned his M.A. in International Relations from Yale University. He joined the U.S. Navy when he completed his education.
He was a retired U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer, a Cold Warrior, and a Vietnam Veteran.
Above all, Jim was dedicated to his wife, Rosalie, whom he still referred to as “his bride,” and to his children and their families. He loved golf, birds, retirement, South Carolina Maurice’s bar-b-que, George Jones and Johnny Cash, the beach, the Carolina Gamecocks and Williams-Brice Stadium, and laughing with his family. He will be missed.
