Colonel Myron J Longmore passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017, after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Alice L. Longmore. He is survived by 3 sons-Scott, Terry & Bruce Longmore, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jean (Rollin) Stehlin.
Colonel Longmore was born on 9/27/30 on a farm near Callaway, NE to Irvin H. & Anna Marie (Cropper) Longmore. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1948, followed by a degree in Technical Science of Agriculture at University of Nebraska in 1952. Upon graduation, he was commissioned by the U.S. Army & was assigned to Fort Sill, OK.
During an illustrious 27 year career in the Army, he served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He commanded 3 batteries, 2 battalions and a Corps Artillery. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College at Leavenworth, KS and the Army War College in Carlisle, PA where he simultaneously earned a Masters degree in Public Administration from Penn State. His final military post was Chief of Staff of Ft. Sill, OK, until his retirement. During his lengthy military career, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, 2 bronze stars and 5 air medals.
Colonel Longmore joined Cameron University staff as the Director of Research, where he won over 10 million dollars in grants and established a research center. He served as president of the United Way for 2 years while at Cameron and exceeded the $1 million goal for the first time.
After retirement Myron and Alice spent 17 years at IRCC a military retirement community in Viera, FL and spent many summers at Sebago Lake Maine enjoying tons of parties, golfing, boating and lobsters.
He lived an exemplary life in both the Army as well as a civilian. He will truly be missed.
