“Jack”, Col. John S. Boyland, United States Air Force, was born Saturday, October 28, 1933 and passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
Jack enjoyed many adventures during his 26 years in the United States Air Force. His early years of the late 50’s early 60’s, he was assigned to Strategic Air Command. His combat crew member role was that of navigator on B52’s. Stationed in Puerto Rico in 1962, we remember the stressful days of preparation during the Cuban missile crises. Jacks next 3 years were spent as ROTC Professor at A.S.U.
In 1967, Jack requested to serve in the Vietnam War. He spent December 1968 to December 1969 in southeast Asia, flying with the Wild Weasels in the back seat of an F105. He returned to us after completing 120 combat missions.
He spent the following two years completing his M.B.A.
It seems like he spent most of 1971 to 1976 in the air, flying between Boeing headquarters in Seattle, WA and Hanscom Field, Bedford Massachusetts. He was director of engineering and manager systems integration AWACS
Jack’s next assignment took him to Space and Missile Systems Organization in Los Angeles, Ca.
Jack concluded his Air Force career as Vice Commander, Space and Missiles Test Organization. After 26 years, he retired from his beloved United States Air Force.
He soon launched his next career with Lockheed Space Operations Company as director of Mission Management, where he oversaw Space Shuttle launch operations.
Jack and Mary were married for 66 years. They have five children, Greg, Denise, Robert, John, and Tom. They also have 4 granddaughters, Whitney, Christen, Devan and Alana.
