Colleen A. Patten, 81, of Midland, Michigan, died Friday evening October 24, 2014, in the loving arms of her husband, children and grandchildren. Colleen was born in Oelwein, Iowa, on August 5, 1933, to the late Virgil and Marjorie Michener. Colleen married Guy A. Patten on April 11, 1954. Colleen worked for Bell Telephone in Oelwein, Iowa, and thereafter managed rental properties owned by Colleen and her husband in Midland, Michigan. Colleen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, vacationing at the family cottage in Harrison, Michigan, cooking and baking, cross-stitching, and taking road trips with her husband.

Surviving are her husband Guy Patten of Midland, Michigan, son and daughter-in-law Alan and Betty Patten of Waverly, Iowa, daughter Cathy Patten of Marquette, Michigan, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Blain Harper of Charlottesville, Virginia, granddaughter and grandson Jennifer and Mike Grijalba of Holland, Michigan, grandsons Matthew Harper and Paul Harper of Charlottesville, Virginia, brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Donna Michener of Bella Vista, Arkansas, brother and sister-in-law Steven and Diana Michener of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sister-in-law Blanche Michener of Eagle Grove, Iowa, several nieces and nephews, and special friends “the Brown Bunch.” Colleen was preceded in death by her sister Cathy Michener of Oelwein, Iowa, and brother Richard Michener of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Per the wishes of Colleen, cremation has taken place.
