Colista Anne Maybury returned home to her Heavenly Father, Wednesday September 16, 2020 after a two month battle with a sudden and aggressive lupus attack. Her unexcepted death has left us in shocked disbelief and heavy with grief.
Colista was born October 2, 1987 in Ogden, Utah to David and Coleen Maybury. Her life began with adversity as she required life saving surgery when only seven hours old. This set the stage for what would become a training ground of challenges that she would grapple with her entire life, but from which she developed numerous admirable character traits, not the least of which were humility, wisdom, perseverance, grit and most precious, Christ-like love. Throughout her life she drew upon these hard won attributes, applying them to her adversities as well as her passions, growing along the way to become the beautiful woman she was.
At an early age her mother instilled a love of dance in her. She worked hard and acquired a grace of movement that was truly beautiful to watch and brought much joy to those who watched her perform especially her parents and grandparents and could often be seen moving around the house in “dance form”. Her efforts with her dance were tireless and she continued working hard until she achieved her goal and dream of making the drill team at Layton High School, becoming a Lancelle which was a source of immense joy and pride for her.
Colista loved her family, especially her father or “Daddio” as she called him and his heart is shattered at this separation. Her Bonus Mom, Linda, her brother, and sister in-law and many nieces, nephews and bonus siblings were the recipients of numerous acts of kindness stemming from her huge loving heart and she was beloved by many.
Above all, she shared a very special bond with her sister Cherrelle with who she shared a passion for music and dance. These shared loves deepened and strengthened their friendship, growing until it rendered them nearly inseparable as their friends will attest. Many are the stories of their shenanigans and great is the increase of gray hairs experienced by Mom and Dad alike due to these two partners in crime. Cherrelle’s heart is broken and empty at the loss of her most beloved and cherished only sister and friend.
Colista was a member of the Sunset 4th ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She faithfully served as a full time missionary for the church in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia mission from July 2013 to February 2015. She served with honor and devotion in spite of severe depression and homesickness. She endured with grit and determination and was honorably released after serving the entire time she was assigned. This was a source of great satisfaction that due to her considerable depression was an amazing accomplishment. From this service she gained a deep testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ which she spread to others through word and deed.
She was preceded in death by her mother; grandparents; and two uncles. She is survived by her father; bonus mom, Linda; her brother, David (Tausha); sister, Cherrelle (Brock); bonus siblings, Clint Baird (Mandi), Sheena Johansen (Jonny), Travis Baird, Josh Baird (Kandice), Cody Baird (Kayla), Jonathan Baird (Lauren); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
We are deeply saddened and filled with profound grief at our temporary absence from Colista. The grief Colista experienced upon her Mother’s passing was profound and ever present. We are comforted knowing that she was received into her waiting arms upon her passing and can scarcely imagine the tears of joy shed by them both at this reunion. For those of us still here, this knowledge is a source of profound relief and joy which will sustain us until we are all reunited with them both. Until then, Colista and Coleen, we love and miss you. Goodbye for now.
We love you and miss you Colista.
