Williamsport, MD – Clyde E. Miller, Jr. “Pat”, 90, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at his home in Williamsport, MD.

He was born on October 7, 1932, across from Steffey’s Wharf near Lock #44 in Williamsport, MD.  He was the son of the late Clyde E. Miller and Loretta M. Miller (Byers).

He was preceded in death by his sons Patrick Lynn Miller in 2006 and Michael Shane Miller in 2015, and his sister Shelva Jean Buzzard in 2022.

Pat graduated from Williamsport High School in 1951.  He attended HJC and received an AA degree, Shepherd College and received his BA degree, and Oregon State University and received his master’s in education degree.

After high school, he joined the Army and completed parachute training and received his wings.  Pat was then transferred to 2nd Infantry Division 38th Regiment Company E where he served as an Infantry soldier and fought in combat at the Battle of Old Baldy and Pork Chop Hill.  Pat was wounded in  this action and received the Purple Heart.  His decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.  After his discharge from the Army he married his High School sweetheart JoAnn Marie Grove.

He was employed by W.D. Byron Tannery for 5 years.  He was employed with the Board of Education for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

In retirement, Pat bought fixer uppers and rehabbed them to sell.  He had a passion for gardening and enjoyed this for many years.  He loved to read non-fiction history books and enjoyed many trips to Williamsburg, VA.

Pat researched the history of Williamsport and the original homes built in 1787 and produced a map of the colonial layout and written history of the towns development for Williamsport’s bicentennial in 1976.

He was a member of the Troop 17 Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Life Scout and was a member of the Guneukitschik Order of the Arrow Lodge.

Pat played baseball, basketball, and soccer at Williamsport High School, and lettered for three years in each sport.  Pat also played amateur baseball in the Washington County Independent League for Williamsport Wildcats for many years.  He also played soccer in the Mason-Dixon League for Williamsport, and played fast-pitch softball for many years until the age of 42.  He was in the top ten hitters in batting averages every year he played and led the league in homeruns.  He was runner-up for best batting average.  Playing sports was his passion.  Pat was considered an excellent amateur baseball player.

He is survived by his loving wife JoAnn M. Miller (Grove) of 68 years; daughter Sali Jo Miller of Williamsport, MD; brother William L. Miller (Skip) and his wife Cheryl Kaetzel Miller of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren Roxanna M. Fiorita and partner Colton Linton of Williamsport, MD, James V. Fiorita and his wife Kristie Miller Fiorita of Hedgesville, WV, Amy S. Fiorita and her partner Matt Radosevich of Hedgesville, WV, Madelyn J. Stotler and her partner Landon Harbaugh of Hedgesville, WV, Morgan Miller and her partner Jesse Reed of Williamsport, MD, and Shayna Miller of Hagerstown, MD; 8 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
