Clifton Merrill Robbins, Jr., 84, of Buford, GA, passed away on May 10th peacefully due to heart failure.
Clifton was born in Teaneck, NJ to Clifton Merrill Robbins, Sr. and Elizabeth Robbins on June 18, 1936.
He graduated from Hackensack High in NJ in 1954 and graduated from Rutgers University in 1958. He was an amazing athlete – he was a 4 year letterman in both basketball and baseball & pitched a rare no hitter. He continued playing baseball @ Rutgers University until an injury sidelined his pitching career. He was also an avid golfer & enjoyed playing golf up to age 75.
He married Joan Schreiber on February 4, 1961 in a blizzard and were married in Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
Clifton was transferred to Atlanta where he worked for Western Electric in management until his massive stroke ended his career at the age of 48. He was such a character and all that met him loved him. He had a strong passion for sports and lived life fully even with his physical limitations. He loved family and especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to family gatherings. He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Monica and served in the Knights of Columbus & Mens Club.
Clifton is preceded in death by his parents Clifton Merrill Robbins, Sr, and Elizabeth Robbins and his wife Joan Robbins.
Clifton is survived by his children, Clifton Merrill Robbins, III, (wife Beth Robbins) & Debora Robbins Vaughan (husband David Vaughan), his sister Barbara Hathaway in Los Gatos, CA and grandchildren, Kristi (Robbins) Hosch, Jenny Robbins and David Vaughan, Jr.
