Clifford F. Steinkraus, 94 of Bloomington, Illinois died Wednesday March 7, 2018 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis, Indiana. He leaves behind his wife of 69 years Margaret (Schneiter) Steinkraus, Indianapolis, IN; his son William (Bill) Steinkraus Bloomington, IL, his daughter Ann “Duran” Steinkraus Downs, his son-in-law Carl Downs III Indianapolis, IN , his brother Donald Steinkraus St. Paul, MN and an amazing extended family that he cherished.
Clifford was the son of Henry F. Steinkraus and Alice (Hartley) Steinkraus of Bertha, Minnesota. He graduated from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota after taking time off to proudly serve his country in World War II. He was part of the 3110th Signal Service Battalion of the United States Army. While attending Macalester College he met the love of his life Margaret Schneiter, and married her in Litchfield, Minnesota on December 20, 1948.
One day Clifford responded to an ad in the Wall Street Journal that landed him at State Farm Insurance Headquarters in Bloomington, IL. This was his calling, and he truly enjoyed giving his all to this company. He retired as Vice President of Investments. His other love was family. He raised his son and daughter at 1st Presbyterian Church in Normal, IL and surrounded them with love, kindness and amazing support. He was a true family man.
He was preceded in death by his brother Keith Steinkraus and wife Maxine, Ithaca, NY, Sister Edith Fisher and husband Martin, Providence, RI and sister-in-law Odney Steinkraus, St. Paul, MN.
