Cletus Mersinger, 78, of O’Fallon, Ill., born December 2, 1927 in Troy, Ill., died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill. Mutsy was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Laborers Local 670.
He was employed by the City of O’Fallon for 16 years, retiring in 1989. He was also very active in the O’Fallon Volunteer Fire Department, achieving the rank of Assistant Chief and retiring in 1987. He also served in the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents Othmar Mersinger & Edna, nee Kuhn, Mersinger-Bassler, stepfather Frank Bassler and a grandson Jason Lee Mersinger. Mutsy is survived by his wife, Marian, nee Strief, Mersinger of O’Fallon, Ill., 6 children; Othmar “Ott†(Gail Laws) Mersinger of O’Fallon, Ill., Deborah (Doug) Soho of Houston, TX, Sandra (Harland) Waldron of Mascoutah, Ill., Duane (Linda Fingerhut) Mersinger of O’Fallon, Ill., Jeffery (Michelle) Mersinger of O’Fallon, Ill., Charles (Amy) Mersinger of Bradyville, TN., a sister Norma B. Mueller of New Baden, Ill., 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and his beloved dog Taffy.
