Cleona Virginia Barringer Lowder, 89, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Trinity Place.
Cleona was born November 1, 1932 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina to the late Ernest Gates Barringer and the late Nora Annabelle Hurlocker Barringer.
She was also preceded in death by husband, Billie Marr Lowder, son, Lowell Bryan Lowder, brother, George Addison Barringer, and sisters, Emily Hill and Mary Bangle.
Survivors include daughter, Trudie Whitley of New London, NC, nieces, Linda Barringer and Lisa (Tim) Coates, and step-granddaughter Johnlyn (Eddie) Morton.
Positions held by Cleona included Treasurer of the Millingport PTA and Cub Scout Den Mother at Salem Church; she also served as both President and Vice-President of the Albemarle AARP organization for four years and President of the Home Demonstration Club of Millingport.
Cleona was very active at Salem United Methodist Church. She sang in the church choir and served as Church Historian for ten years. She served with both General Circles and was Chairperson of the “Christian Social Concerns” office for the Albemarle district for four and a half years. Cleona was also in charge of the “Court Watch” (guarding the needs of children) for three counties, representing the United Methodist Women.
