Yeoman Senior Chief Clemente Lopez Ortega, U. S. Navy, (ret.), age 70, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2005. Born in on March 6, 1935, he was the son of Adolpho and Petra Lopez Ortega. A native of Comfort, TX, he had lived in Algiers, LA, for the past 36 years. A 1954 graduate of Boerne High School, Mr. Ortega enlisted in the U. S. Navy on January 28, 1955. He was a crew member aboard the USS Nautilus SSN 571 which was the first nuclear powered submarine to transit the North Pole on August 3, 1958 and he was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc. Unit No. 162, as well as a member of the Submarine Veterans Association. Presented the Presidential Unit Citation by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, he also received the Navy Unit Commendation, The National Defense Service Medal and received the Good Conduct Medal five times. After retiring from the U. S. Navy in August of 1975, he also retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a mail carrier with Station “A.” Preceded in death by his parents, Yeoman Senior Chief Ortega is survived by his Wife, Otilia Rendon Ortega; Sons, David Ortega of New Orleans, LA and Daniel R. Ortega of Virginia Beach, VA; Daughter, Julia Ortega Ruth and her husband, Stephen of New Orleans, LA; Grandchildren, Jason Ortega of Chico, CA, David, Daniel, and Amanda Ortega of Virginia Beach, VA; Brothers, George Ortega of Boerne and Pete Ortega of Rockdale, TX; Sister, Grace Ortega Trees of Orange Grove, TX; Mother of Grandchildren, Terry M. Ortega of Virginia Beach, VA.
