Mrs. Claudia J. “Honey” Troup, 45, of Elkhart, passed away at 5:24 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend from complications from injuries received in a May 30 automobile accident. May 11, 1968 – Aug. 11, 2013
She was born in Lenoir, N.C. on May 11, 1968, to Lester and Jerry (Foster) Sawyer, who survive her in Elkhart. She married Steven D. Troup Jr. on Feb. 8, 1999, in Elkhart. He survives at home.
Also surviving are her sons, Christopher Sawyer and Joshua Troup, both of Elkhart; siblings Heather (Mark) Potter and Paul Sawyer, both of Goshen; grandson Gabriel “Eli” Sawyer of Elkhart; and grandmother Hazel Sawyer of Elkhart.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, Claudia’s body is to be cremated. A memorial gathering of friends and family will take place at Billings Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, with visitation starting at 1 p.m. and a memorial service following at 2 p.m. Pastor Richard Noone of Sasown Church in Walkerton will officiate. Claudia’s remains will be returned to North Carolina at a later date.
Claudia was an Elkhart area cosmetologist for many years until she enrolled at Ivy Tech in 2002. By 2007, she had made the dean’s list and attained the degree of registered nurse, specializing in wound care and Alzheimer’s management. She worked at several area nursing facilities, including Hubbard Hill and the Life Care Center of Michigan City, where she was employed at the time of her passing. She was an avid Elvis fan and loved to spend time with her family, friends and her dogs.
