April 26, 1930 – September 13, 2017
Claudia Boehmer, 87, of Boerne, was called to her Heavenly home on September 13th, 2017. She was born on April 26, 1930 to John Paul and Nerina (Pizzek) Marassi in Treiste, Italy, and lived there until 1950 when she came to America as a war bride.
During her early years she experienced life under the country’s Fascist leader, Benito Mussolini, followed by occupation by Nazi German troops. She experienced standing in line for hours just to receive her daily bread ration, and the frightening sound of wailing air raid sirens. Relief finally came with the end of the war and the stationing of American troops in her city. Claudia experienced and enjoyed many good things in her life, but also knew the sad times; her father died when she was fourteen years of age, she became a widow at the age of fifty, and she endured the death of two of her three daughters.
Claudia never forgot her Italian heritage and lived life to its fullest. She was always proud to be an American. Traveling was one of her great joys.
Claudia is survived by her husband Melvin Boehmer; a daughter, Michel Witherow and her family; two grandsons and their families which include three great-granddaughters; a son-in-law, his daughter and two stepchildren and their families.
A special thanks for all the tender loving care she received from the staff at Town and Country Nursing Home and Alamo Hospice.
