Claude E. “Jack” DeLawter, 73, of St. James Village, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore.
Born June 16, 1938, in Williamsport, Md., he was the son of the late Otho Victor and Eva Catharine Schroyer DeLawter Sr.
He was a 1956 graduate of Williamsport High School.
Jack worked at the R. Paul Smith Power Plant in Williamsport for 14 years and most recently for the G.E. Murray Distributing Co. in Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Funkstown, Md., a past member of the Alsatia Club in Hagerstown, and a past member of Potomac Fish and Game Club.
Jack was an avid NASCAR fan and a talented woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma L. Payne DeLawter; a son, Michael B. DeLawter and his fiancee, Vicky, of Halfway, Md.; a daughter, Jacquelyn K. Nally and her husband, Larry, of Halfway; grandsons, Michael, Spencer and Logan; a stepgranddaughter, Klarissa; a great-grandson, Ryan; two stepgreat-grandsons, Taylor and Carter; and two sisters, Marie Gaylor of Williamsport and Reba Spickler of Halfway.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Melcora McKinley; and two brothers, Otho V. DeLawter Jr. and William Byron DeLawter.
