Claude D. Allen, 78, left us on July 3, 2020 with his wife Jane by his side. Claude was born on July 5, 1941 in East St. Louis, IL to Claude and Virginia Allen. He is preceded in death by Girly, Inky, Taffy, Tootsie, Charmin, Fluffy, Comet, Bootsie, Oafie, Ginger, Spare, Mischa, Ruby and Norman. He loved the pets in his life almost as much as he loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Jane Allen, daughters Mary (Steve) Miller and Mo Allen (Tyler Smith), and two granddaughters June and Olive Miller. He is also survived by his four younger siblings Stacey Duncan, Dana (Marshal) Swalley, Kate (Glen) Riechmann and Jeff Allen. He was the absolute best dad and papa who ever lived.

His family was his greatest joy. Golf was a close second. He loved spending mornings on the golf course with his golf buddies. On April 22, 2016 Claude hit a hole in one at Bent Oak golf course on hole 11 using a 6 iron.

Claude had a curious mind and was a lifelong learner. He loved to read, solve puzzles, play trivia and he was the family champ at Reader’s Digest Word Power. He loved an opportunity to have a friendly debate. He would probably joke that he was a know-it-all, but he really did know it all.

He was a craftsman and loved spending time in his garage at his workbench. He made his daughters swing sets, beautiful decks and fences, porch swings, stained glass lamps, and even sewed curtains from bed sheets. He would climb to the top of the house every Christmas when his girls were young to hang the very best Christmas lights.  He took great care in whatever he made and added his touch to every family home.

Claude loved a good beer – in a glass, not from the bottle. And he would often quote Homer Simpson, “Ah, beer. The cause of and the solution to all of life’s problems.”

He was an incredibly humble, witty, intelligent, giving and loving man. His family is so lucky to have had him and will miss him terribly.
