Claud E. Childress, age 88 of Sanford died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his home. The son of the late Hazel and Georgia (Ames) Childress was born on May 30, 1926 in Adrian, Michigan. Claud was raised and educated in Pontiac. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a POW in Germany. Claud married Deborah deBeaubien on June 11, 1997 in Las Vegas but have been together since 1980. He had worked as a plumber for Union Local #85 for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He was the co-founder and charter member of the Sanford Loyal Order of Moose #2519 and a former member of the Sanford Eagles and Sanford American Legion. Claud enjoyed travelling; one of his most memorable trips being to Australia and New Zealand. In his leisure time he enjoyed making macramé chairs.

Claud is survived by his wife, Deborah; son, Claud Childress, Jr.; daughter, Regina (David) Roberts of Hohenwald, TN; step daughter, Holly (Ralph) Anheuser of Lowell; grandchildren, Nichole, Ashley and Alexander Anheuser and Tina (Randy) Dommer; great grandchildren, Trisha Dommer and Alisha (David) Servelo; great great grandson, Colton Servelo; and sister Nancy Spurlock. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Herbert Childress; sister Daisy Proctor and step son Richard deBeaubien.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Mary and Gary Hinstermeister for being such good caregivers to Claud in his final days.
