Clarice Van Name Sawyer

August 11, 1937 – November 11, 2019

Clarice Van Name Sawyer “Curley” passed away on November 11, 2019 at the age of 82 after an awe inspiring battle with Leukemia.

Curley was born in Pueblo, Colorado to George and Thelma Van Name. She spent the first three years of her life there before starting on her adventure through her young years living in Mobile AL, Portland OR and South Orange NJ as her father moved with SH Kress & Company. They moved to Denver in 1948 as she started 6th grade living in the Park Hill neighborhood. Childhood summers were spent counting birds and learning to fish at the family cabin at Warm Lake in Idaho. As an East High School “Angel” she graduated in 1955 continuing on to the University of Colorado, Boulder, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

Before children, Curley enjoyed her time as an elementary school teacher. Proper grammar, cursive handwriting and art classes of tree drawings filled her lesson plans.

Curley married Dr. Robert “Bob” Sawyer in 1984. They were two peas in a pod. During their 34 years of devoted marriage, they did everything together. Bob’s passing in December of 2018 created a void in Curley’s life that makes their spiritual reunion a blessing now.
