Clarence W. “Butch” Horton, Jr. was a standing stone. He was stubborn, honest and loyal. Butch adored his family and was a doting grandfather. He got a kick out of the old westerns. He found the freight trains’ whistle blowing rumble, exciting and enjoyed calling cq for qso on amateur “ham” radio.
On Thanksgiving evening, Thursday November 24, 2016, the midnight train was whining low and W2UGH signed off for the last time. We returned Butch to heaven and gave thanks to the moon and stars, which have given their light when the sun was gone. Butch was born in Mt. Holly and had been a longtime resident of Edgewater Park.
In his early years Butch worked for the Beverly Police Dept. as a Court Officer before starting a career at PATCO working as a train operator and retiring as a revenue collections officer. He had been an original member of; the Beverly Athletic Club (card # 001), the Edgewater Park Elks and Hope Hose #2 in Beverly.
Butch enjoyed taking in the Columbus Flea Market, watching the guys fish off of Bank Rd. and finishing each day with a beer and shot of jack, cheers! Butch is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Neamand) Horton and his daughters Jennifer Borella and Kimberlee & her husband Donald Waite. He is the proud grandfather of Kaila Archer, Zane and Zoriah Waite and is also survived and will be sadly missed by his feline furbabies Queenie, Misty & Josie.
