Clarence “Ken” Kenneth Hanson, Jr., 65, of Red Lake, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN.  He was born in Red Lake, MN on December 22, 1951, the son of Kenneth and Amelia (Chase) Hanson, Sr.

Ken was an avid hunter, fisherman, storyteller and loved to pick Morel mushrooms. He also liked playing at the casino, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports, traveling and sitting on his deck at night and watching the stars. Ken loved to cook and talk about it. He was the person to go to when you needed advice. When he wasn’t having fun, he was busy working. He began working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Forest Development as a temporary Forestry Aid in 1977 and worked there until 1979. In 1980, Ken attended and graduated school at the Detroit Lakes AVTI as a Forestry Technician. Soon after graduating, he began serving on the Red Lake Fire Crew and worked various details out west throughout the years, such as Arizona, New Mexico, California, Colorado, Missouri and Michigan. Ken started working that the Greenhouse as a forestry aid in 1982 for a year and then started as a Forestry Inventory Technician in the Ceded Lands and worked there until he was hired full-time as a Lead Forest Development Technician with the BIA until the tribe went Self-Governance in 1988 and was there for almost ten years until he transferred to Timber Sales Forestry Technician. Ken also worked as a Tree Planter and would help take the school kids out and taught them how to plant trees during Arbor Week for eight years.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; Kenneth and Amelia, brothers; Eugene “Jip” Hanson, Robert Dale Hanson, Sr. and Joe Hurd, Sr., sisters; Doreen “Cookie” and Rebecca Hanson, nephew; Robert “Skinny-man” Hanson, Sr., niece; Sherry Hanson and other relatives.

He leaves behind his son; Desmond (Carren Donnell) Sigana of Red Lake, daughters; Carlene (David Bowen) Sigana of Red Lake and Angela (Jay Morrison, Jr.) Yerxa of Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada, brother; Gary Lee Hanson, sister; Gloria “Mickie” Hanson, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
