          Muncie-Clarence H.

          Mr. VanMatre is a 1948 graduate of Muncie Central High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving with the Signal Corps Company C of the Headquarter Battalion and it was at that time when stationed in Germany he met the love of his life Ingeborg (Medelnik) VanMatre and married her on March 25, 1954 while stationed there. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1983.

          Clarence eventually would work for the Carpenter’s Union Local #1016 having various assignments through out Delaware County and eventually retiring in 1992.

          He enjoyed Indy car racing, Colts football, science fiction (especially Isaac Asimov), gardening, and music.  He was a member of the VFW Post #651, the ACLU, and the American Legion Post #0019 and had belonged to the Carpenter’s union for 65 years.

          Survivors include one daughter, Katharina Hill, Whittier, California; one son, David VanMatre (wife-Jennie), Muncie; four grandchildren, Christopher Hill (wife-Nicole), Winder, Georgia, Stephanie Hill, Whittier, California, Julian VanMatre and Jonah VanMatre both of Muncie; two great granddaughters, Callie Garcia, Whittier, California and Emma Hill, Winder Georgia.

          Besides his wife of 29 years, Ingeborg, he is preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
