Clarence E. Sager, 82, of Freeport, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born April 27, 1922, in Stephenson County he was the son of Charles and Clara (Herbig) Sager.

He married Betty Stewart on October 17, 1945, and she died on January 21st, 1989. He worked for Burgess Cellulose and 3 M for 26 years as well as the Freeport School District for 10 years retiring in 1987. A World War II Army veteran. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and Liberated France. He received American Theater Campaign Medals, 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct, Purple Heart, and WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the VFW.His hobbies included, tinkering with cars and lawnmowers, fishing, and playing cards.

Surviving is his son, Gregory (Tina Pfeiffer) Sager of Freeport; daughters, Penny (William “Spud”) Bardell-Larson, Wanda (Tim) Ussery all of Freeport, and Vicki (Stan) Hickman of Michigan; sisters, Nellie Snyder and Alice (George) Midthun both of Freeport; half-sister, Violet Lee of California; Brothers, Donald Sager and Marty (Pauline) Sager both of Freeport; 10 grandchildren, Tim, Dawn, Scott, Troy, Jason, Kris, Kortni, Amanda, Jonathan, and Tyler; 7 great-grandchildren, Cory, Michael, John, Kiley, Kylie, Jace, and Jarin; 2 step-grandchildren, Donnie & David; several nieces & nephews and long time friend and companion Marietta Schaney of Freeport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant daughter; 2 sons; 3 sisters; and 3 brothers.
