C. Bill Gregg Cdr. USN: part of the “greatest generation” and one of the last WWII dive bomber pilots passed away of natural causes on May 5. Born in Buffalo, Iowa on 1/24/21, Cdr. Gregg left the University of Oklahoma at 19 to become a Naval aviator. During WWII, Cdr. Gregg served on 3 different aircraft carriers (Enterprise, Saratoga and Shangri-La) and participated in the battles of Midway, Coral Sea, Guadalcanal and Okinawa. Among his many awards were the DFC and the Bronze Star with V (valor). After 20 years in the Navy, Cdr.
While at EAL, Mr. Gregg was the 1st Anglo Chairman of Hispanic Heritage Week, VP Tourist Committee Florida Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of Tourism Committee Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce; and, served of the Board of the International Center.
A long-time member of Riviera CC where he spent many hours playing golf and gin rummy. A four-sport star in HS, Mr. Gregg especially loved University of Oklahoma football, UM basketball and watching his two youngest grandsons participate in youth sports.
Mr. Gregg is survived by his wife, Gail (Duganne), his 3 children (Tricia, Jeff and Paul), 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
