Clara Vivion Thornton, loving mother & grandmother, passed away on May 6, 2013.Vivion was born on April 28, 1911 to Ethel & James Walker “Watt” Hayden in Sherman, Texas. Vivion was married to Clifton Haskell Thornton for 56 years, until his death in 1983, living in the Fort Worth & Arlington areas.
Vivion is survived by her sons Jerry M. Thornton & wife Corazon & Wayne D. Thornton; grandchildren Steven Wayne Thornton & wife Dorothy, Sherrill Anne Hood & husband Clark, Gregory Thornton & wife Terri, Gabrielle Thornton, Janice Pack & Pat, Michelle Hilemen, and Brian Maguit; great-grandchildren Emily, Madison, & Hayden and Haleigh & Harrison Hood, Vivian Pack, and Andrew Hilemen. Along with her husband, Vivion was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Anna Myrl Thornton.
Vivion was an avid golfer and awarded numerous times for her abilities, one of which was a hole-in-one. Vivion was an active member of The Women’s Golf Association, as well as The Rolling Hills Country Club, where she was awarded an honorary lifetime membership. In April 2007, Rolling Hills CC named a popular annual couples golf tournament, the “Vivion Thornton Classic”, in her honor. The tournament has raised thousands of dollars, which benefit the “a Wish with Wings”, a charity that works with children with life threatening medical conditions.
