Clara Lucile (Starnes) Sparks, 94, of Stanford, died on Thursday at Bloomington Hospital. She was born on February 25, 1916 in Greene County and was the daughter of Joel P. and Minnie (Fleetwood) Starnes.
Lucile was a 1933 graduate of Solsberry High School and a graduate of the Bloomington Business College. Lucile worked for 29 years in Accounting at Sarkes Tarzian. She was a 75 year member of the Stanford Baptist Church and was their oldest member where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Friendship Class. She was a founding member of the Thrifty Chums Home Economics Club.
Lucile was proud of her Greene County roots and was a descendant of the Jackson Family in Jackson County, and her great great grandmother Mary Jackson Edwards was a first cousin to President Andrew Jackson.
She is survived by five daughters, Bernadene Koons (Sonny) , Pat Stull, Kay Elkins, Sharon Clark and Marilyn Deckard (Rex) all of Bloomington and one son Ronald Sparks of Bloomington. Also surviving are grandchildren, Bethany Murray (Jim), Suzanne DeMoss (John), Shawna Koons, Laura Hall (Tom), Kara Stillions (Sam), Sarah Escarcega (Zesor), Tony Stull, Tim Stull (Laura Jo), Joel Clark (Lisa), Rex Deckard Jr. (Brenda), Tracy Stull, Cameron Deckard (Melanie), Jason Clark (Tonya), and Rebekah Waldrip (Tom), great grandchildren, Jacob Bowman, Mariah Sturgeon (Kyle), Samantha Stillions, Savannah Stillions, Jackson Davis, Levi Stull, Luke Stull, Lily Stull, Sadie Stull, Caleb Elkins (Paige), Claire Sims, Zoe Escarcega, Bella Escarcega, Zach Clark, Tanner Clark, Makenzie Ray, Jacklyn Clark, Jonas Clark, Casey Crouch, Isaac Crouch, Emilie Deckard, Adam Deckard, Abigail Deckard, Amelia Deckard, Isabelle Deckard, Joey Waldrip, Josh Waldrip, Chris Murray, Scott Murray, Alex Murray, John DeMoss, Clint DeMoss, great great grandchildren, Ava Worley, Owen Sturgeon, Conner Elkins, Ashlyn DeMoss, Alyssa DeMoss, Caleb DeMoss, and Lexi DeMoss and her caregivers, Ruth Freeman, Karen Burks, Ruth Chasse. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Laudios “Buck” Sparks who died in 1995, granddaughter Heather Elkins-Sims, two great granddaughters Hunter Elizabeth Stull and Kaitlyn Hope Hammond, three sons-in-law Tom Stull, Jack Clark and Bill Elkins, three sisters who died in childhood, Ephry Starnes, Dora Starnes and Rubie Starnes, two sisters, Bonnie Burch, and Edith Sparks and four brothers, Cecil Starnes, George Starnes, Woodson Starnes, and Alva Callahan.
