Clara R. Macumber, 86, of Edwardsburg, passed away peacefully of natural causes Friday, March 18, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.

She was born, in Elkhart, Sept. 3, 1929, to the late Robert and Elva (Smeltzer) Black.

She then married William R. “Bill” Macumber Sr. on Nov. 16, 1946, in Elkhart, where he passed away in 1993.

Surviving are her sons, William “Bill” (Johanna) Macumber Jr. of Edwardsburg and Ronald “Ron” (Eva) Macumber of Elkhart; daughter Connie (Jerry) Johnson of Clermont, Fla.; sister Vera Lydon of Lancaster, Calif.; grandchildren Lori, Libbi, Leslie, Charity, Patty, Paul and Samantha; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters, and two more on the way.

Also preceding her in death were brothers Vaughn and Charles Black and sisters Phyllis Schultz, Mary Glasgow and Fran Maurer, and her daughter, Bonnie Green.

Clara was the manager at Elkhart’s old Dog-N-Suds Drive-In for more than 20 years. She also worked at CTS and ADEC, where she retired in 2004. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and enjoyed her grandchildren, shopping, Notre Dame football and listening to Rod Stewart.
