Clara Quave Smith was born March 31, 1934 to Percy and Marie Quave in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Growing up as the oldest sister of five, she was a natural caretaker. Throughout her childhood, she did all she could to take care of her siblings Walter, Dot, Clarence, and Violet. In high school she wrote features for the local paper, and after graduating she went to business school where she met her husband and the love of her life, Floyd Smith.

Within months of meeting the two eloped in 1954. Just a few years later, in 1957, they welcomed their first child, Roxanne and a few years after that in 1960, they had David.

Some of Clara’s fondest hobbies were sewing, fishing, music, and the card game rook; she was also known to enjoy an occasional round of bowling.

Her dearest love was her family. She loved taking care of people and was always the first volunteer to hold any baby. If it was for her family, she could be counted on to be at every sporting event, every recital, every school play. She was an incredible mother and grandmother.

After 85 years of life and 65 years of marriage, Clara will be forever remembered by her family: devoted siblings Violet and Dot, Beloved husband Floyd, loving children Roxanne and David, treasured grandchildren Keith, Matthew, Heather, Samantha, Madison, and Connor, and dear great-grandchildren Hayden, Addison, Gavin, Max, and Roxanne.”
