Clara “Kay” Olson, 96, of Lakeside, Michigan died Saturday morning, September 5, 2009 at her home. Clara was born March 16, 1913 in Three Oaks, Michigan, the daughter of Johannes and Marie (Mathisen) Jensen. She graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1929. After a year at County Normal School in Bridgman, Michigan, she continued her education at Michigan State University, Western Teachers College, and Wheaton College. She returned to her hometown where she taught school for many years, and ended her career as principal at the former Lakeside School retiring from the River Valley School District in 1968.

On April 16, 1938 she married Ray C. Olson. They lived their entire life in the Lakeside area. Clara enjoyed knitting, sewing, and playing cards. She loved time spent in the outdoors watching, tending, and stewarding the homestead that she and Ray created. Clara treasured her family and time spent visiting with them.

Survivors include her sons, Larry (Mary) Olson of Three Oaks and Alan (Becky) Olson of Coaldale, Colorado; granddaughter, Shanan Olson of Boulder, Colorado, grandson, Kenneth Olson of Indianapolis; step grandchildren, Mandi Allen of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Gary “Buddy” McElwain of Three Oaks; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Seeder and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 1994; sisters, Dagmar Zeiger, Margaret Allen, Emma Pfauth, and Leona Frances, brothers, Carl and Sigurd Jensen and by her step granddaughter, Melissa Kaminski.
