Clara Marie Creighton- Johnson, a native of Laurel, Miss., and a resident of Chatom, lived a faithful life until she answered the Master’s call to her heavenly home Jan. 30, 2021. She was born April 15, 1948 to the late Walter Griffin and Maple Ree Steward-Griffin.
Clara Marie was a proud 1965 graduate of Wilson High School. She was employed as a phlebotomist until her retirement. She met and married the love of her life, Deacon Perry Lee Johnson, and the couple remained together for 54 years.
Clara Marie was a faithful member of Lilly Grove Baptist Church until her health failed. She was the president of the Usher Board, a deaconess, vice-president of the Missionary Board, a Sunday school teacher, trustee, and a member of the Golden Agers.
Clara Marie loved spending time with her family and crafting in her leisure time.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Deacon Perry Lee Johnson; and two daughters, Lenora Johnson Abston and Sharon Denise Johnson-Spence.
Left to cherish her memories are five grandchildren, Kishna James of Duluth, Ga., Scottie L. Mc Bride of Tuscaloosa, Keyshaun Abston and Kyra Abston, both of Chatom, and Jared T. Mc Bride of Troy; four great- grandchildren; two sisters, Anette (Anthony) Gwin of Grove Hill and Thelma Griffin-Kirkland of Birmingham; two brothers, Milton (Cathy) Griffin of Louisiana and Roger (Jackie) Griffin of Jackson; with many relatives, friends and caregivers
