Clara Hartley Shub passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2022. She was 74 years old.
Clara was born on October 28, 1947, to Frank Howell and Alice RW Hartley in Kansas. She was the youngest of three children. Clara attended school in Atwood, Kansas, and later received her Bachelors in K-12 Music Education from the University of Kansas.
Clara met her husband, Charles Shub while attending the University of Kansas. From this union, they had Wesley Abraham (1973-2014), Sarah Marie (1976), and Jonathan Hartley Shub (1980). Clara and Charles later divorced.
Clara taught in Academy District 20 in Colorado Springs, and in Linwood Public Schools. While in Linwood she was the boys wrestling coach and had many articles written about her being the first female wrestling coach.
Clara went on to be a stay-at-home mom with Sarah and Jonathan. She enjoyed supporting Jonathan’s Boy Scout leaders and substitute teaching. She then started working at Hancock Fabrics where she was able to merge her love of quilting with being surrounded by material. She spent many years making quilts for friends and family. She loved hearing how the recipients enjoyed her quilts.
Clara enjoyed returning to Atwood every summer to spend time enjoying Alumni Weekend with her classmates.
Clara was preceded in death by her brother Robert Hartley of Cleveland, OH, and her son Wesley Shub. Clara is survived by her sister Susan Hartley of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughter Sarah Shub of Colorado Springs, CO and her children Sadie, Shane, and Sterling; her son Jonathan (Chelsey) of Colorado Springs, CO, and their children Owen and Corbin.
