On the evening of July 16, 2016, Clara Ahn passed away peacefully at the age of 80 while being attended by devoted staff at the Fairmont Care Centre in Chicago, IL.
Clara Ahn was born Jae Soon Yoo to parents Mida Kim and Doo Su Yoo in the city of Pyong Yang during the winter of 1935. As a young girl, Clara, her two older brothers and her parents fled to Seoul, South Korea when Japanese occupation of Korea ended in 1945. She was the first daughter of an Episcopalian priest and the oldest sister to 6 more boys and 2 girls. She studied and received a degree in fashion design and was teaching design when she decided in 1967 to marry an Episcopalian priest, Paul Ahn. They were blessed with their first child, Mary, in 1969; and their second daughter, Esther, arrived in 1972.
