Claire passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2017. She was born on October 4, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of the late Dominic and Rose McDonnel. Claire is a 1953 graduate of Temple University Teachers College and taught in the Philadelphia schools. An expert swimmer, she was a member of Temple University’s undefeated medley relay team which placed first in the Eastern Collegiate Swimming meets of 1952-1953.
She was also a member of the Aquadelphian water ballet team of Philadelphia. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. Claire was quick witted and loved to laugh. She was a huge supporter for the Right to Life of Michigan and was a devoted Catholic, attending daily mass and saying daily rosaries. More than anything she loved her children and grandchildren, especially teaching her grandkids clever sayings.
On June 5, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA Claire married her best friend and devoted husband of 58 years, Leo Kiley, who preceded her in death on October 29, 2012. Surviving are her children who couldn’t have asked for a better mom, a son, Dr. Kevin & Ruth Kiley and three daughters, Kate & Chris Glatt, Jen & Brett Hoseth and Maryclaire & Troy Pelak; 25 grandkids; 5 great-grandkids; and sisters-in-law, Marylou and Kathy West.
