Claire Ford Saine Gormley began her Eternal Journey on December 3, 2010-just a few hours short of her 87th birthday–with her family and loved ones by her side in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her life was filled with family and friends in Arizona, Denver, Atlanta, and around the country. She left behind a family enriched by her wisdom and nurtured by her love. She was born December 4, 1923, in Richmond, Virginia to Leroy and Ruby Ford. Her father was an executive with Southern Railways and her mother was a homemaker. They moved to Wilmington, NC, then Louisville, KY where Claire graduated from Louisville Girls High School, and then on to Atlanta. In 1945 Claire met and married Thomas Saine, an executive with Echlin Manufacturing Co. and later Genuine Parts Co. She gave birth to three boys Tom, Dave and Steve. In 1960 Claire, Tom and the boys moved to Denver and built a strong network of life-long friends. Seven years after Tom’s death, Claire found a life partner and husband in Edward Gormley. They were married on September 21, 1998 in Las Vegas, NV and relocated to Scottsdale, AZ soon thereafter. Many have joined together to honor her memory and celebrate her life: Edward Gormley (Husband), Shirley & Hagan Baskin (Sister and Brother-in-Law), Tom, Dave and Steve (Sons), McKayla, Joshua and Troy (Grand Children), Alexandra Belle (Great Grand Daughter), Kelly, Cathy and Colleen (step daughters), Sean and Ryan (grandsons), and Patricia Quirk ( sister-in-law) and the members of the Gormley, Baskin and Ross families. Our mother, grandmother, sister, life partner and friend knew and loved poetry as much as any literary critic and music as much as a composer. She was wise in her counsel, keen in her memory, generous with her affection and loyalty. Make no mistake-she was also feisty and fun-loving. She loved a trip to the beach, a glass of champagne, a good party and a risqué© limerick. We love her with all our heart. We will miss her dearly. She will always be “our satin doll” and Ed’s “little peanut”.
