Claire A. Lucier, 78, passed away on Saturday, February 29th while at The Brudnick Center in Peabody, surrounded by her family.
Born in Lynn, MA on October 24, 1941 to John Joseph O’Connor and Elisabeth Ilene (Steeves) O’Connor. Claire is preceded in death by her oldest brother John J. O’Connor and her younger brother Richard H. O’Connor. Claire is survived by her two loving sisters, Loretta M. O’Connor and her spouse Diane E. Daren of Brookline MA., and her youngest sister Katherine (Kathy) R. O’Connor of Shrewsbury, MA.
Claire leaves behind a daughter Katherine (Katie) A. MacKay, her favorite Son-in-law John (Bill) J. MacKay and her beloved Granddaughter Rory K. MacKay of Salem, MA. Claire also had a son, Karl B. Lucier, who preceded her in death at an early age.
Claire graduated from Peabody High School in 1959. After graduating she worked for the Warren Five Bank. In 1964 she left work and married Bernard L. Lucier and started her family. Claire and Bernie later divorced but remained friends until his death in 2014, both devoted to their children.
When her children were young she volunteered at St. Mary’s school and organizations such as American Little League, Boy Scouts as a Den Mother, Bluebirds, and Our Lady Sodality at St.
Although Claire loved being home with her children, she missed working and went on to work for Finest Grocery Store, George Peabody Bank, and finally her last and longest job as a Bookkeeper at Auburn Systems in Danvers between 1982 until her retirement in 2013.
In between taking care of her family and work, Claire went back to school to receive her Associates Degree in Business from Northshore Community College. Claire also went on to attend Salem State College.
Claire’s pastimes included watching the Patriot’s, playing Bridge with her friends and sewing. She used her talent to make Christening Robes for Baptisms and Prayer Quilts for the sick. However, her favorite thing to do was spend time with her granddaughter Rory whom she shared a special bond with.
Claire also leaves behind a niece MaryBeth McCasland and her husband Scott of Utica, NY., and a nephew John L. O’Connor and his wife Enlise of Beverly, MA. Also, two dear friends from childhood, Anne Billert of Georgtown, whom she shared the same birthday and Kaellen D’Amour of Peabody, both of which were with her until the end.
