Clair Charles Bennett

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Clair Charles Bennett (93), passed away peacefully in his home on November 30, 2016. He was born on November 5, 1923, in Virginia, Idaho, to Ralph and Mary Richardson Bennett.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tank operator in six battle campaigns under General George S. Patton, Jr. and as a result traveled to North Africa, Italy, and the European Theatre of Operations. He also served in the occupation forces working with displaced personnel and German SS prisoner-of-war rehabilitation and was able to learn and communicate in German during this time. He received many ribbons, medals and awards, including the Silver Star.
In 1941, prior to the war, he met Bonnie Lou Stocks at a dance. While he was away at war, he and Bonnie exchanged many letters. He married Bonnie on April 24, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. They celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary together earlier this year.
Clair studied landscape architecture, structural engineering, arboriculture, horticulture, agriculture, and soil mechanics at the University of Idaho, Montana State University, and Utah State University.
